RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Periorbital hyperpigmentation (POH) is a common disorder in the patients. Women are more upset with POH in compare to males. Several methods have been used to the POH, with different efficacy and adverse reactions. AIM: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the efficacy of microneedle fractional radiofrequency (MRF) in treating POH. METHODS: So, nine patients with POH and the age range of 25-57 years, were treated by microneedle fractional radiofrequency (MRF). The outcome was evaluated via biometric assessment. The colorimeter was used to assess the skin lightness. Mexameter was used for evaluated the amount of Melanin in the periorbital skin. Cutometer was used for skin elasticity assessment. The skin ultrasound imaging system was utilized to estimate the epidermis and dermis diameter and density. Furthermore, Visioface was applied to assessed the skin color and wrinkles. Also patient's satisfaction and physician's assessment were evaluated. RESULTS: The results displayed that the periorbital skin lightness 32.38% ± 5.67 and elasticity of the R2: 40.29% ± 8.18, R5: 39.03 ± 5.38 and R7: 42.03% ± 14.16 were significantly improved after treatment (p < 0.05). Also the melanin content of the skin was decreased (49.41% ± 9.12). The skin layers were denser in the dermis and also in the epidermis (skin density: 30.21% ± 10.16 and skin thickness: 41.12% ± 13.21) (p < 0.05). The results revealed the decrease in the percent change of the skin color (30.34% ± 9.30) and wrinkle (area: 25.84% ± 6.43 and volume: 30.66% ± 8.12) (p < 0.05). Similarly, the physician and patient's assessment were confirmed the obtained outcomes. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the microneedle RF technique is practicable, effective and safe method for periorbital dark circles treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Noninvasive laser for body fat contouring is a quickly growing field in the cosmetic dermatology. Surgical options carry disadvantages, such as the usage of anesthetics, swelling, pain and long time for recovery, so there is a growing public request for the techniques with fewer side effects and shorter recovery periods. Several new noninvasive body contouring ways have been advanced such as, cryolipolysis radiofrequency energy, suction-massage, high-frequency focused ultrasound, and laser therapy. Noninvasive laser improves the body's appearance by the elimination of excess adipose tissue, specifically in areas in which fat perseveres in spite of diet and exercise. METHODS: In this study the efficacy of Endolift laser was evaluated for reduction of excess fat in the arms and under abdomen. Ten patients with excess fat in the arms and under abdomen were enrolled in this study. The patients were treated by Endolift laser in the arms and under abdomen areas. The outcomes were evaluated by two blinded board certified dermatologists and by patients' satisfaction. The circumference of each arm and under abdomen was measured using a flexible tape measure. RESULTS: The results showed reduction in the fat and circumference of arms and under abdomen after treatment. The treatment was considered as effective methods with high patient satisfaction. Also no severe adverse effects were reported. CONCLUSION: Endolift laser can be a good alternative to surgical body fat contouring due to its efficacy, safety, minimal recovery time, low cost. Also Endolift laser does not require general anesthetics.

RESUMO

Numerous individuals suffer from the lower eye bag. Lower eye bag treatment is a challenge that might require new methods. Depending on the cause, there are different treatment approaches to reduce puffiness under the eyes. In this pilot study, 9 patients with lower eye bags received Endolift therapy (200-300-nm fiber) and were followed up for 6 months. The patients were evaluated according to biometric characteristics. Additionally, outcomes were evaluated by three blinded dermatologists, and patients' satisfaction was assessed. The obtained biometric results showed that Endolift laser treatment could increase both the dermis and epidermis of the skin and skin elasticity in this area. Furthermore, the results indicated that Endolift therapy showed good and very good improvement in about 90% of patients. Photographic data evaluation indicated a 90% improvement in the appearance of eye bags (P < 0.05). Endolift laser seems to be a safe and effective method for lower eye bag treatment. It is a noninvasive treatment with satisfactory results with minimal downtime and side effects. Endolift therapy significantly reduces the appearance of eye bags and wrinkles and increases skin elasticity under the eyes; therefore, it is an effective method for lower eye bag treatment. The method is pain-free, bloodless, and without the need for stitches. Endolift therapy allows the patient to avoid surgery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: People with acne scar suffer from destruction to the surface of the skin. Treating acne scars is a challenge that might need several methods. AIMS: Subsection is a method that has been informed to be a useful method in treating rolling acne scars. While Subcision is a valued procedure, its effect is mild to moderate due to its high reappearance rate, and patients' dissatisfaction with some of the side effects such as inflammation after procedure. PATIENTS/METHODS: In this pilot study, 9 rolling acne scar patients underwent Subcision with the Endolift (200-nm fiber) and followed up for 3 months. Outcomes were evaluated by 3 dermatologists (Blind). Also, the patients' satisfaction was assessed to compare with dermatologist's opinions. RESULTS: Our results indicated that Subcision with the Endolift displayed good and very good improvement in about 90% of patient with a good and very good satisfaction in the patients. Photographic data evaluation indicated 100% improvement in scar depth, topography, and total acne scar appearance. The average numbers of lesions before the treatment were 25.5 ± 12.1, and after treatment, it was reduced to 11.4 ± 2.1 (P < .05). CONCLUSION: Subcision with the Endolift seems to be a safe and effective method for acne scar treatment. It is done with a single perforation on each side (instead of several perforations), which reduces the pain and scar risk in the patients. Also, Endolift-based Subcision needs fewer surgical sessions and less recovery time with less inflammation and erythema.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Since vitamin D is a recent known immunoregulatory factor in some diseases which are addressed in immune system disorders such as SLE, [psoriasis] and others. OBJECTIVE: To determine the serum levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 [25(OH)D] in patients with acne vulgaris and its association with clinical features. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted over months. This study included 39 patients with acne vulgaris and 40 healthy controls. Subjects who did not use alcohol, vitamin D supplements, oral steroids or PUVA and/or NBUVB for more than three months were included. Serum 25(OH)D levels were measured. Baseline demographics, family history and comorbidities like PCO were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 16.0.0. RESULTS: The median concentration of 25(OH)D was 8.4 ng/mL (range: 1.4-99) in patients and 10.4 ng/mL (range: 3.1-56.7) in controls, with no statistical significant difference. PCOS was a significant predictor of the occurrence of acne vulgaris (OR=6.25; 95% CI: 1.52-25.66; p=0.01). There were no significant associations between severity of disease and serum 25(OH)D levels (rs=-0.12, p=0.45), age (rs=-0.28, p=0.09), BMI (rs=-0.12, p=0.46), age at onset of disease (rs=-0.08, p=0.63) and duration of disease (rs=-0.10, p=0.54). CONCLUSION: Based on the previous studies this is highly suspected that vitamin D would be a prominent factor in acne patients and more performances with bigger sample size could be useful to get positive results.
